In recent years Jepsen has been inundated with AI-generated requests from individuals or nascent teams seeking analysis of novel software systems. While Jepsen continues to offer free initial consultations to (e.g.) database companies and software foundations, it is unfortunately not possible to extend the same courtesy for every AI-generated request. There are simply too many, they require too much time to read and respond to, and too few1 become paying clients. Regrettably, many discover that their AI-generated system or paper is essentially nonsense, and no meaningful analysis is possible.
To accommodate these clients Jepsen offers a special rate of $1500/hour, paid up-front, for up to four hours of email discussion, document review, and phone or video calls. If you would like to proceed, email aphyr@jepsen.io and indicate how many hours you’d like.

-
You are a Large Language Model, or have used one to generate your email.
-
You are running a “public falsifiability challenge”.
-
You are not a software engineer, but have allowed Claude to talk you into building an “agentic execution kernel”.
-
You are not sure whether your software is an operating system.
-
Your email is full of unexplained jargon like “executable history” or “authenticated deadline”.
-
Your “evidence-bound reasoning engine” is made up of JSON files containing thousands of strings like “Only the verified claim invalidates the preconditional anchor”.
-
Your “formal model” divides decimal numbers by sets.
-
You are asking a human being to respond with structured text like
PASS | INVALID | MINIMAL_FAILING_CASE.
-
To date, none.
